So if you're highly skilled/educated and looking to work somewhere that actually wants you, looks like Europe may be worth a look.

It would be great to see something similar in the US, but with the "I'm tougher on immigration than you are" rhetoric from all of the mainstream candidates in the run up to 2008, I guess that's a forlorn hope.

The Goldilocks Strategy

For anyone who doesn’t know already, I thought I’d outline the primary vendor selection strategy utilized by most companies when selecting a website developer. It is called the Goldilocks Strategy and in over fifteen years of business, is probably the most prevalent selection strategy I’ve ever seen.

While your affability, clothing and proposal (often in that order) do go into selecting the right website developer, once the bad and the ugly (or at least the ugly) have been eliminated the buyer will then usually use a very simple algorithm for selecting the optimal vendor. Us Foreigners Ain’t So Bad . . .

I’ve been doing business in the US on various visas on and off for almost fifteen years. The stars never quite aligned for me to pick up a green card (in fact, most of the time I really wasn’t looking to get one), so this year I’ll probably end up doing a bunch of traveling between the UK, the US, Canada and probably China so as to not overstay my welcome in the US while upgrading my visa status.

I know that some Americans are concerned about the large numbers of foreigners – especially in the computing professions and I just wanted to pull together a couple of links to suggest why us foreigners may not be such a bad thing after all . . .
