Rob Gonda @NYCFUG

Rob Gonda flew up from Florida to present at the New York CFUG last night. I've to to say that while Michael and Judith did a great job with the NYCFUG, Clark Valberg and Ben Nadel are doing an even better job of building on the solid base they were provided and developing a vibrant user group. If you're in the NYC area you should really check out the meetings. Last night there were well over twenty attendees, a great talk and plenty of good networking both before and after the meeting . . .

Rob's talk was on using AJAX in CF - both with the new CF8 features and directly working with libraries such as jQuery. Using real world examples like AJAX form validation and filtering of records in a table, Rob showed the various ways to pass data back from ColdFusion (from XML and JSON to eval()'able js snippets and innerHTML. For those not familiar with them, he introduced debugging aides like Firebug, Charles and Fiddler, He also provided good information on AJAX security, file uploads using AJAX and handling history/bookmarking using Javascript.

As a bonus, Nafisa was up from DC and Simon Horwirth also popped in to the meeting for while. As always it was great to catch up with Rob and hear some of the cool projects he's been working on as a few of us retired to a great steak house off of Park to continue the conversations after the meeting, Many thanks Clark!
