Getting Sorted in Sydney
I flew out of Montreal 6am EST on Friday, spent the afternoon hanging out with Paul Marcotte in Vancouver, and then arrived in Sydney at 7.20am on Sunday. I've now made it to a guest house while I "scout" the area, so I probably won't be blogging much today, but lots of ideas from ooPSLA and some other thinking I've been doing, so look forward to more of the regularly scheduled programming later this week!

Brief tips:
1. Get onto Australian time on the plane. Stay up as late as you need to and then go to sleep over the Australian evening (you should be tired enough by then to sleep) so if you land in the morning, you then just have to keep going all day and you'll be jet-lag free. I flew east from Montreal via Vancouver and by following this, had not jetlag at all!
2. The flies!!!! This is the one thing that sucks about Australian summers, and clearly the Australian tourist board has been bribing travel writers not to mention them. Google the "Australian salute" and you'll get more info. If it wasn't for the flies, Sydney summers would be paradise on earth. With them, I find that it's much less fun than expected. Seems like it annoys even the locals, although I guess you must get used to it.
Other than that, have a great time. I'm definitely enjoying things here. Where and when is the Festival?
Whooboy... my husband must've been doing some research and found out about the flies... I was wondering why he felt the need for a special trip to the store for "headnets"!
The event where I'll be presenting is the Digital Media Festival in Sydney: http://www.digitalmedia.com.au/DMF ; Sydney Convention Centre 13-15 November 2007. If you're still over there, you should check it out! It's my first time, but seems like quite an interesting conference.

I don't see too many people wearing head nets, although in the bank yesterday I think the teller would have given anything a try!
Event looks good! It's a little outside of my focus (we create web applications, but I write and present on the requirements gathering/programming/design patterns/code generation side of the business)
, but I've signed up for the exhibition pass. Perhaps we could grab a coffee at the conference?
I'll contact you offline with my details. Look forward to meeting you!
